A VR arcade business plan has to answer four questions: who your guests are, what you sell them, what it costs to open and run the venue, and how many bookings you need to break even. Below is a template for a free-roam VR arena. Cells with Metaforce VR Arena's confirmed terms are filled in; every other cell is marked your estimate and is for you to fill in with local quotes and data.

This is a planning tool, not a forecast. Rent, wages, taxes and prices vary a lot between countries and cities, so the numbers that decide your plan have to come from your market.

Apply now and we will review your filled-in plan and venue with you.

What sections should a VR arena business plan include?

A lender, an investor or a mall leasing manager will expect roughly the same structure:

  1. Executive summary. One page: the concept, the location, the investment, the payback target.
  2. Concept and format. Free-roam arena or booths, games, age groups. See VR arcade business for the difference between formats.
  3. Market and location. City population, catchment area, footfall, nearby entertainment, schools and offices.
  4. Products and pricing. Hourly play, arena rental, birthday parties, corporate events, gift certificates.
  5. Operations. Opening hours, staff, booking system, headset hygiene, session turnover.
  6. Marketing plan. Launch campaign, local partnerships, social media, reviews.
  7. Investment budget. Venue, renovation, equipment, content, working capital.
  8. Operating costs. Monthly fixed and variable costs.
  9. Revenue forecast and break-even. Three scenarios: low, base, high.
  10. Risks. Seasonality, traffic, equipment wear, content fatigue, staffing.

Concept: what goes into the product section?

If you plan to run Metaforce games, this part is already defined:

Item Metaforce VR Arena
Format Free-roam: players walk physically, movement in the game matches real movement
Released games 5: TeamForce, StarForce, Elevators, Portals, Mini Games
Coming soon Zombies (co-op survival, 3 maps, 4–10 players, 9+)
Players per game 4–20; on one arena 8 to 12 or more play at once, depending on venue size
Ages Shooters 7+, Mini Games 6+
Content updates New maps or games every 6 months, included in the subscription
Map adaptation Maps rebuilt around the exact layout of your venue

The rest of the concept section is yours: the name of the venue, opening hours, the target audience mix (your estimate: share of families, teenagers, adult groups, companies).

Market and location: what do you need to research?

Metaforce arenas work in cities from 20,000 residents, but a small town and a city of a million need very different plans. Fill in:

Question Your data
City population and catchment area your estimate
Venue type: shopping mall, family entertainment center, standalone your estimate
Footfall of the mall or street your estimate
Competing entertainment within 15–20 minutes your estimate
Local price level for an hour of entertainment per person your estimate
Schools, offices and residential areas nearby your estimate

Venue requirements for a Metaforce arena: play area 50–300 m², total venue 100–700 m², optimal 150–250 m² total with a 100–150 m² play area, 10–15 kW of power, a level floor and ceilings from 2.5 m. Layout details are in VR arena design.

What should the investment budget look like?

The investment table is where most VR game business plans go wrong: people price the headsets and forget the renovation, the lounge and the working capital.

Item Amount Source
Rent deposit and first months of rent your estimate Landlord quote
Renovation: floor, walls, lighting, power, ventilation your estimate Contractor quote
Reception and lounge furniture your estimate Supplier quote
Headsets, computers, tracking your estimate Any supplier you choose
Spare headsets, straps, face pads, cleaning supplies your estimate Supplier quote
Games and support: Metaforce subscription $4,990 (6 months), $7,990 (12 months) or $14,990 (24 months), taxes included, paid upfront Metaforce
Launch marketing your estimate Your plan
Working capital for the first months your estimate Your plan
Total your estimate

For reference only: for Metaforce arenas in Russia, total investment starts from RUB 2.5 million. Do not copy that figure into a plan for another country; use local quotes. A detailed breakdown is on the franchise cost page.

There is no franchise fee, so the content line above is the only payment to Metaforce at launch.

What are the monthly operating costs?

Monthly cost Amount
Rent and service charges your estimate
Staff wages and taxes your estimate
Utilities (power for 10–15 kW of equipment plus lighting and climate) your estimate
Metaforce subscription after the first term, unless you buy another fixed term $799 per month
Royalty or revenue share $0 (no royalties, no revenue share, no marketing fee)
Local marketing your estimate
Headset maintenance and replacement reserve your estimate
Booking system, payment fees, internet your estimate
Accounting and other your estimate
Total fixed costs your estimate

Because there is no royalty, your payment to Metaforce does not change with revenue. That makes the break-even calculation simpler: almost all of your costs are fixed. Read why we chose this model on no-royalty franchise.

How do you build the revenue forecast?

Forecast each product separately, then add them up. Arenas in our network sell five formats.

Product Price Bookings per month Revenue
Hourly play, per player your estimate your estimate your estimate
Whole-arena rental, per hour your estimate your estimate your estimate
Birthday party packages your estimate your estimate your estimate
Corporate events and team building your estimate your estimate your estimate
Gift certificates your estimate your estimate your estimate
Total monthly revenue your estimate

To set prices, look at what local entertainment costs, then compare with our illustration: in our Russian arenas, 1 hour per player costs from about RUB 800 to RUB 2,300, and the whole arena costs about RUB 5,500–19,900 per hour. Monthly revenue of Metaforce arenas in Russia ranges from RUB 500,000 to RUB 1,500,000 depending on the city, the venue and occupancy, with payback from about one year. These are Russian figures; your forecast must use your market's prices.

Tip for the forecast. Count bookable hours, not opening hours. Weekday mornings will be quiet; Friday evenings, weekends and school holidays carry the plan. Model three scenarios (low, base, high occupancy) and check that the low one still covers fixed costs.

To learn how parties and corporate events fill those peak hours, see VR birthday party and VR team building.

Break-even: how do you calculate it?

Line Value
Total monthly fixed costs your estimate
Average revenue per arena hour your estimate
Arena hours needed to break even = fixed costs ÷ revenue per hour your estimate
Bookable arena hours per month your estimate
Break-even occupancy = hours needed ÷ bookable hours your estimate
Payback period = total investment ÷ monthly profit your estimate

If break-even occupancy comes out above what you believe is realistic for your city, change the inputs before you sign a lease: a smaller venue, a better location or a different product mix.

What does the launch timeline look like?

Step Who Timing
Application and first call You and Metaforce your estimate
Venue search and floor plan review You, with Metaforce feedback your estimate
Lease and subscription contract You your estimate
Renovation and equipment purchase You your estimate
Map adaptation to your layout Metaforce In parallel with renovation
Staff training and launch support Metaforce Before opening
Opening You From a week to several months after the contract, depending mainly on the venue and renovation

What risks should the plan list?

Name each risk and how you will handle it: seasonality (summer dips, especially in warm cities), dependence on mall traffic, headset wear, content fatigue and staffing. New maps or games every 6 months help with content fatigue; the knowledge base covers headset care and staff routines. The rest is your mitigation plan.

What does Metaforce charge, and is it in the plan?
A subscription: $4,990 for 6 months, $7,990 for 12 months or $14,990 for 24 months, paid upfront. After the term, you buy another fixed term or continue at $799 per month. There is no franchise fee, royalty, revenue share or marketing fee.

How long does it take from contract to opening?
From a week to several months, depending mainly on the venue and renovation.

Does Metaforce provide a financial model?
We help partners check the venue and talk through the economics before signing. The figures specific to your city and venue are yours to estimate with local quotes.
