Choosing an entertainment franchise starts with three numbers: how much you invest, how many square feet you need, and how much of your revenue goes to the brand every month. This page compares seven formats on those terms: a free-roam VR arena (Metaforce VR Arena), a trampoline park, an escape room, classic laser tag, an indoor playground, indoor mini golf and a bowling center. Figures for other formats come from franchisors' own pages, Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) summaries, trade press and, where nothing better exists, industry guides. Every figure is linked below and was checked in October 2026.
We are Metaforce, so this comparison is not written by a neutral party. We don't rank the formats, and there is no single list of the best entertainment franchises that fits every investor. Where a figure is not published in the sources we checked, we say so instead of guessing.

Metaforce figures come from our own franchise terms. Metaforce publishes investment and revenue only for arenas in Russia; the dollar figure is the rouble amount converted at the Bank of Russia rate on 14 October 2026 (about RUB 84 per dollar). Rent, wages and equipment prices in the US differ, so it is not a US forecast. Aggregators sometimes show different ranges for the same brand because they cite different FDD years; the year for each figure is in the sources list.
Trampoline park franchise: the largest format
Trampoline parks are the biggest venues here. Franchise Times, citing Sky Zone's FDD, puts a new build at $2.3–5.2 million and a conversion of an existing park at $166,750–$463,250 [1]. An FDD aggregator lists higher 2026 ranges by facility tier, from $3.25 million (16,000–27,000 sq ft) to $6.4 million (39,000–50,000 sq ft) [3], so check the current FDD before you budget.
The strength of the format is scale: one building, many attractions and a large party business. The trade-off is capital and rent: a trampoline park franchise needs a big box and a seven-figure budget. If you already own a park, a VR arena is a way to add an attraction for older kids and adults inside the space you have; see VR arena for trampoline parks.
Escape room franchise: compact, with a content question
An escape room franchise is the closest to a VR arena in size. Besides the 6% royalty, Escapology charges a 2% innovation fee and a per-player licensed game fee of $1.50–$3.50 [8]. Escape rooms are a large, stable category: just over 2,000 US facilities in December 2025, with about 3.8 games each [11]. The same industry report flags older games as a risk: a room that runs for years without improvement wears out with players [11]. Our full comparison for owners choosing between the two is in escape room vs VR arena business.
Laser tag franchise: few franchisors, guide figures only
We did not find a current US laser tag franchise with a public FDD, so the table uses industry guide estimates, not franchisor figures; one guide also asks for ceilings of at least 14 ft [12]. A VR arena covers the same team-battle idea without a physical maze, with ceilings from 2.5 m (about 8 ft); the differences are on VR laser tag vs classic.
Indoor playground franchise: younger kids, mid-size boxes
Indoor playgrounds serve the youngest guests. The Kids Empire and Kanga's figures in the table come from older FDD years (2022 and 2021) [14][15]. Many playground owners look for a next attraction for children who have outgrown soft play; that is covered in VR arena for indoor playgrounds.
Mini golf franchise and bowling alley franchise
Monster Mini Golf's core format is about 10,000 sq ft with mini golf, an arcade and two event rooms [17]. Its 2026 FDD fee is $60,000; a 2024 trade article gave $40,000 [16][17].
Most large US bowling brands are corporate-owned, according to an industry guide [19]. The franchise we found is 810 Billiards & Bowling, with two published investment ranges [18][19]. A bowling alley franchise is the second-largest box in this comparison after trampoline parks.
What about an arcade franchise?
Arcades are not in the table because published franchise data is thin. One example: Fantasy Claw Arcade launched a franchise program in 2025 with investment "starting as low as $245,000", a 6% royalty and a 2% marketing fee; its first location is 4,500 sq ft [20]. A VR arena sells group sessions and events rather than single plays, which changes how the space earns.
What does a VR arena franchise look like by comparison?
Metaforce VR Arena is a free-roam team arena: 4 to 20 players per game walk freely in a shared virtual world. The payment model is different from every other format above:
| Term | Price (taxes included, paid upfront) | After the term |
|---|---|---|
| 6 months | $4,990 | Another term or $799/month |
| 12 months | $7,990 | Another term or $799/month |
| 24 months | $14,990 | Another term or $799/month |
There is no franchise fee, no royalty and no marketing fee. Equipment (Meta Quest 2/3/3S or PICO 4/4 Ultra headsets, computers, tracking) is bought by the partner from any supplier. The games are TeamForce, StarForce, Elevators and Portals (7+), Mini Games for children 6+, with Zombies coming soon; new maps or games arrive every 6 months. About 30 arenas in 4 countries run Metaforce games, including our own 2 arenas in Yekaterinburg. What a full budget includes is on franchise cost, and why we chose a subscription is on no-royalty franchise.
Which entertainment franchise fits your situation?
Read the table by your constraint, not by the headline investment:
- You have a large budget and want a destination venue. Trampoline parks and bowling centers are built for that, and need 16,000–50,000 sq ft [1][19].
- You have a small unit. Escape rooms (about 2,000–3,000 sq ft [10]) and VR arenas (from about 1,080 sq ft total) are the compact formats.
- You already run an FEC, trampoline park, playground or mall unit. A VR arena can open inside the existing building on a 50–300 m² play area, sharing reception and party rooms.
- You want predictable fees. Every franchisor in the table except Metaforce charges a percentage of revenue; with a subscription, your payment to the brand stays the same in a record month.
Our conclusion, with the caveat that we are Metaforce: among the formats compared, a VR arena is the most compact option alongside escape rooms, has the lowest entry cost to the brand (no franchise fee), and can be added inside an existing family entertainment center, trampoline park or mall unit without a separate large box. It is not a replacement for a trampoline park's scale or a bowling center's food and beverage business.

FAQ
What are the best entertainment franchises?
There is no single best one. The right format depends on your budget, the space you have and your audience. Trampoline parks and bowling centers need the most space and capital; escape rooms and VR arenas are the most compact.
Which entertainment franchise needs the least space?
In the sources we checked, escape rooms (about 2,000–3,000 sq ft, older Escapology figure) and VR arenas (Metaforce: 100–700 m² total, about 1,080–7,530 sq ft).
How much does a trampoline park franchise cost?
Sky Zone's FDD puts a new build at $2.3–5.2 million and a conversion at $166,750–$463,250; Urban Air lists $2.85–7.94 million; Altitude $2.23–3.26 million.
Is there an entertainment franchise without royalty?
Among the formats here, Metaforce VR Arena charges no royalty and no franchise fee; partners pay a flat subscription from $4,990 for 6 months. The other franchises listed charge royalties of 5–8%.
Can a VR arena open inside an existing FEC or trampoline park?
Yes, if the space has a level floor, ceilings from 2.5 m, 10–15 kW of power and a play area of 50–300 m². Maps are rebuilt around the exact layout of the room.
Where do the figures come from?
